Yes, like with Angus, King of the Mountain, the world’s tallest snowman, the Bethel Chamber is having a 50/50 raffle – guess the date correctly when Olympia SnowWoman will melt and you will get half the raffle money.
Jim Sysko is the judge of when every last drop of her is gone. If multiple people guess the same day, they will split the winnings.
To enter call them at 824.2282, with a credit card to buy raffle tickets. Or stop by their office behind the SnowWoman.
$1 per guess
or
$5 for 6 guesses

Who could have ever believed that we would head into the two biggest spring skiing weekends at Sunday River and have THIS MUCH SNOW!! I, for one, remember when there should have been signs on the mountains that said….”Caution….some SKIING required!!!” That was when we had to practically walk between the patches of snow!! This year….no walking required!!!
This weekend is the Eat The Heat Chili Cookoff and Firefighters Challenge. At 10AM teams of 5 firefighters from around Maine, in full turnout gear AND joined by a fire hose, race through gates (in a line, mind you) to see which is the fastest crew in Maine! At noon the chili competition begins. Buy tickets, then sample the selections and vote for the People’s Choice Award! Yummy!
Next weekend is the 21st Annual Parrothead/Bust n’ Burn Festival with all the fun activities happening at White Cap Base Area. This includes Jimmy Buffet cover bands, Pond Skimming, bumps competition and a Key Lime Pie Eating Competition!
Have fun everyone and see you out on the mountain!

In case you couldn’t be at her party, here is a picture…along with RE/MAX’s own snow woman, Maxine in front of our Parkway office.

And, for those of you who have been wanting to try the beautiful sport of Telemark Skiing or if you’re a long time tele skier, you’ll want to head to Sunday River on the 23rd for the 6th Annual Maine Telemark Festival. There will be a bump contest, clinics, a costume contest and a big party!! This event is free when you purchase a lift ticket.

As you may remember, Bethel is the Guiness Book of World Records holder of the World’s Tallest Snowman when they built a 113′7″ snowman in 1999. They have set their sights on a new record, this time to build the World’s Tallest SnowWOMAN! The community has set it’s goal around 120′. The Bethel Chamber of Commerce has put together a website specifically for this activity and you should make it one of your favorites! There is even a live webcam!

Thanksgiving is already here! And there’s no better way to burn off the Thanksgiving Feast than a weekend of skiing at Sunday River! The word is that the conditions are great, and it’s getting colder everyday so the snow guns will be pumping out even more of the white stuff! Sunday River was the first Eastern resort to open this year with the official first day of continiuous skiing being Nov. 8th. They did however spin lift 4 on Halloween to allow a few diehard riders to hit the slopes in October!
P.S. Don’t forget to buy your pass before November 30th!!
